Emerson's Smart Wireless And Tyco Thermal Controls' Tracetek Technologies Combine To Provide Wireless Hydrocarbon Leak Detection

Emerson Process Management launches the Rosemount 702 Wireless Discrete Transmitter with Tyco's TraceTek leak detection sensors for liquid hydrocarbon detection. The integration of Emerson's Smart Wireless technology and Tyco TraceTek sensors enables cost-effective liquid hydrocarbon leak detection for single tanks, large tank farms, and pipelines.
Smart Wireless and Tyco Thermal Control's TraceTek technologies make it easy for operators to quickly and inexpensively add leak detection and monitoring to their operations to comply with government regulations and ensure that valuable hydrocarbons are not wasted. Distant tanks, pipelines and valves can now be monitored without the need to run expensive signal wires back to the control room. This can result in savings of up to 60% of the total system cost.
"The introduction of the Rosemount 702 Discrete Transmitter with hydrocarbon leak detection technology provides new capabilities to implement leak detection solutions that utilize the IEC 62591WirelessHART technology," said Bob Karschnia, vice president, wireless at Emerson Process Management, "This allows the hydrocarbon sensor leak detection information to be transported through the mesh network via the Rosemount 702 in an affordable and dependable manner with greater than 99 percent data reliability."
TraceTek sensors react to contact with a liquid hydrocarbon and send a discrete signal to the Rosemount 702 wireless transmitter which is transmitted wirelessly back to the control system. TraceTek sensors can sense liquid hydrocarbons, including light and heavy crude and gasoline, in drip pans, sumps and on the surface of water, or even buried under tanks and pipelines. In addition to the discrete wireless transmitter , Emerson offers a wide range of wireless field instrumentation and plant operations equipment, including Fisher position monitors, Rosemount transmitters, Rosemount Analytical and Machinery Health Management devices and native wireless interfaces to AMS Suite predictive maintenance software, DeltaV or Ovation digital automation systems, and wireless SmartStart services. Smart Wireless is an extension of Emerson's PlantWeb digital plant architecture.
