Eco-Tec addresses produced water issues in the heavy oil producing industry through its innovative RecoPur® EOR Water Treatment System. Similar to Eco-Tec's RecoPur® CBM system that addresses produced water issues from Coal Bed Methane production, the RecoPur® EOR efficiently treats water for reuse in heavy oil and enhanced oil recovery processes.

The production of heavy oil requires treatment of large volumes of produced water. The volume requirements typically call for water treatment capacities of 3 or more gallons of water for every gallon of heavy oil produced. At current global production levels, this amount of water equates to over 250 million barrels of water per day, or 7,875,000,000 gallons per day-enough to fill approximately 12,150 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

About the RecoPur® EOR Water Treatment System
The large volumes of water resulting from heavy oil production can pose a water consumption and discharge concern. The RecoPur® EOR system can treat feed water that exceeds total dissolved solids (TDS) levels of 12,000 mg/l, and reduce hardness levels to below 0.2 mg/l (as CaCO3). This quality of water enables its economical use in production processes. The RecoPur® EOR uses NO chemicals and produces little or no waste. The system requires up to 60% less space than other options, is compact and skid-mounted, and is fully tested prior to installation, all of which contribute to its economic and cost reduction advantages.

Reliable, proven technology is key to effective recovery, purification, and the reuse of produced water. To date, development of advanced technology to purify produced water has been environmentally driven. However, major financial benefits can also be obtained by utilizing economical water treatment solutions, and an excellent return on investment can be easily achieved.
