Honeywell Technology To Streamline Process Control At Total Oil Refinery In The U.K.

London - Honeywell recently announced it is implementing a $7M contract to supply a process automation system to TOTAL's Lindsey Oil Refinery in North Lincolnshire, United Kingdom.

Honeywell will integrate and centralize the various control and monitoring systems used at the Lindsey Oil Refinery into a single process automation system. When completed, the system will provide plant operators with full view and control over the refinery's operations. In addition, the system will deliver better control over refinery safety, alarm management and environmental compliance.

"One of our chief concerns was how to migrate to the new system without incurring downtime," said Don Boylen, Project Manager, TOTAL Lindsey Oil Refinery. "Honeywell's implementation plan ensures a smooth transition to the new system with no disruption to our operations. We have an excellent working relationship with Honeywell and the integrated project team approach has proved successful."

By modernizing the monitoring and control systems, Honeywell will enable TOTAL to quickly address processing irregularities that can result in excess emissions and operational inefficiencies. This project follows an earlier assignment in which Honeywell provided TOTAL with an upgrade path of its systems.

"TOTAL's business objectives for this project were numerous and ranged from enhancing Abnormal Situation Management to strengthening environmental compliance," said Paul Orzeske, vice president and general manager for Honeywell Process Solutions Europe, Middle East and Africa. "Although the upgrade and integration work has been extensive, the project is progressing smoothly and we are well on our way to enabling TOTAL to meet its objectives."
