The Micropulse line of magnetostrictive linear position sensors has been expanded with the introduction of the self-contained explosion-proof transducer. FM- and CENELEC-approved, the explosion-proof Micropulse has an IP68-rated stainless steel housing and provides all the benefits of non-contact magnetostrictive positioning technology with bomb-shelter-like ruggedness. It is ideal for petroleum industry applications such as offshore drilling, liquid level, and product handling, providing a cost advantage versus typical intrinsically safe systems.
The product is available with a variety of floats specially designed for liquid level applications in hazardous areas. It has received FM approval for Class I, Division 1, Groups A, B, C, D; and Class II, Division 1, Groups E, F, G. Inherently accurate, it features resolution to <0.2µm, linearity of ±0.02%, and hysteresis of just 0.0001", along with sub-millisecond analog update times – 3X faster than lower-grade magnetostrictive devices.
The new transducer is CE-approved, shock-resistant and sealed to IP68 requirements – immune to contamination from dust, chips, dirt and oil, as well as outdoor environments. Non-contact, wear-free design ensures peak accuracy over the entire life of the unit, while absolute position sensing eliminates the need to re-home after a power outage. Stroke lengths to 142" are available. Micropulse sensors operate on 24VDC, protected against reverse polarity, with ±15VDC operation available as an option. All standard analog and digital outputs are available.
