Siemens (formerly USFilter) Supplies ABB Lummus Global

Rothschild, WI - Siemens Zimpro Products will supply a Zimpro® wet air oxidation (WAO) unit for ethylene spent caustic treatment for the Shanghai SECCO Petrochemical Company 's industrial wastewater treatment plant in Caojing, China. This is the first Zimpro® WAO unit installed in the People's Republic of China for ethylene spent caustic.

Employing WAO technology will help Secco alleviate two problems frequently associated with ethylene spent caustic: disposal and odor. According to Russ Forbess, chief process engineer at Siemens Zimpro Products, WAO technology destroys odorous sulfides and allows acid neutralization of the spent caustic, and discharge to conventional biological treatment.

"WAO is considered state-of-the-art technology for treating spent caustic," says Forbess. "The majority of new ethylene facilities now use WAO for treating their ethylene spent caustic."

Wet oxidation, developed and commercialized by Zimpro Products, is widely used to treat both refinery-spent caustic and ethylene caustic. In recent years, Zimpro Products has supplied more than 20 wet oxidation systems for spent caustic treatment.

ABB Lummus Global and Sinopec Engineering (SEI) are providing engineering and procurement services for the new petrochemical complex. ABB Lummus Global has worked with Siemens, Zimpro Products on other projects using WAO technology in the recent past.
