The alarm subsystem provides the ability to generate and manage alarms for PI points. PI-Alarms is designed to supplement, not replace the alarm capabilities available from plant control systems.
PI-Alarm provides both current value and historized alarm states. Alarm groups can be set up to organize and manage alarms. There is an alarm detection program for monitoring numeric, digital, and string points. Alarm client functionality is available through the PI-API to alert operators to selected alarms.

How It Is Used
PI Data Server can integrate data and perform calculations using variables from multiple physical locations or systems. PI-Alarm can generate alarms based on these calculations. PI-Alarms can generate alerts for time-based functions, such as the averages and totals required for environment reports.
