PI-Batch (Server)
The batch subsystem of the PI Server, PI-Batch, stores and retrieves PI System data as batches, rather than in a time-oriented context. Records associated with batches are created which contain batch information such as: Batch ID, Product ID, and the unit in which the batch was created. An inquiry function allows the user to select batches of interest. The server system, PI-Batch, works closely with PI-BatchView, the client application for batch tracking. PI-BatchView includes batch querying, batch trends, and an Add-In to Excel for batch analysis and reporting.
The PI-Batch server system detects and records batch activity. Users can specify the PI-Batch Monitor to associate any process tag as the indicator of the start or end of a batch. Thus, systems that do not have dedicated batch execution systems can still detect and monitor batches.
PI-Batch can also be used to generate Batch ID and Product codes, and associate process conditions with the batches. The database may be searched for specific batches or groups of batches. The batch search results may then be used to view PI Archive data in the context of selected batches.
PI-Batch applications are useful in many process industry segments such as chemicals, food and beverage, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. However PI-Batch and PI-BatchView are not just limited to pure batch processes. In addition to monitoring pulping processes, PI-Batch applications are used by papermakers for indexing reel numbers to the PI Archive. They have also been used in applications where a sequence of steps occurs, such as burner startup and shutdown. In this example, a user can determine whether or not proper sequencing took place and identify the steps necessary to remedy any situation that arises.
