Eco-Tec Forms Outsource Partnership With O'Brien & Gere
Partnership to Provide an Outsourced Zero-Liquid Discharge Water Treatment System to a New Mexico Power Plant
Pickering, ON - Eco-Tec and O'Brien & Gere to supply a Zero-Liquid Discharge (ZLD) feedwater make-up system for the Public Service Company of New Mexico's Afton Generating Station. By partnering with O'Brien & Gere, a leading Engineering and Project Delivery firm, Eco-Tec adds another option to its current portfolio of water treatment systems designed to purify water and limit the amount of waste, while recycling water for power generation and industrial facility processes.
Scheduled for commissioning in February 2007, Afton Generating Station's new system will use well water as the initial feed source for boiler steam generation, while waste, from this and other internal processes, will be sent to the wastewater treatment system. In a closed-looped process, the majority of the treated wastewater will then be reused in the cooling towers, thus limiting waste and minimizing the need for well water intake. A small portion of wastewater will then go to evaporation ponds. No effluent will leave the site.
Eco-Tec will also be supplying a proprietary remote monitoring system, EcoLinc®, which will be installed at the Afton Generating Station, and at O'Brien & Gere offices, with access from Eco- Tec's Customer Service Department. EcoLinc® will be able to provide O'Brien & Gere off-site monitoring and control access of the water treatment system, composed of Eco-Tec's Spectrum Micro Media Filter, Eco-RO (reverse osmosis), and Recoflo® Demineralizer components, along with Eco-Tec ancillary equipment.
O'Brien & Gere will have real-time access to measurable parameters needed for Zero-Liquid Discharge to comply with the Public Service Company of New Mexico's mandates on plant waste. In addition, with 100% outsourced responsibility, O'Brien and Gere will be able to monitor individual component performance based on flow rates, conductivity, temperature, and tank levels, giving the Afton Generating Station management the confidence that their outsourced partners have full control of any variances in performance.
