N/Aps Petroleum Company has an atmospheric residium desulfurization (ARD) reactor guard filter that makes use of Pall Corporation's Rigimesh Backwash Filter System design. The system is fully automated, with proprietary gas-assist cleaning of the porous metal filter elements.
The filter unit, to be installed at the 60,000 barrels-per-day ARD reactor unit, is expected to produce a significant increase in service run time between turnarounds by reducing the quantity of suspended solids in the feed. The filter system is designed to extend the life of these specialized catalyst beds, with cost-savings, due to significantly reduced particulate contamination.
