Falcon Gas Storage to start construction on Hill-Lake pipeline
Project makes Falcon the only independent storage facility interconnected with Texas' main east-west natural gas pipelines
Falcon Gas Storage Company and its subsidiary, Hill-Lake Gas Storage, L.P., today announced that right-of-way acquisition has been completed for the construction of a new 17-mile, 20-inch diameter natural gas pipeline in Eastland County near Dallas/Ft. Worth. Construction is scheduled to start the first week of August on the pipeline, which is expected to be operational by November 1. When completed, Falcon's Hill-Lake Pipeline will operate at a maximum pressure of 1200 psig and will have a maximum capacity of more than 300,000 Mcf per day.
The new pipeline will connect Falcon's Hill-Lake Gas Storage Facility with both the Lone Star Pipeline Company's Line "X" and the El Paso/TXU Fuels North Texas Pipeline. Both of these pipelines are major 36-inch gas transmission systems that receive gas primarily at the Waha Hub in west Texas and deliver gas to Dallas/Ft. Worth and surrounding areas.
"We are very pleased that construction of the Hill-Lake Pipeline will commence on schedule, which we planned when we bought the Hill-Lake storage facility," said John M. Hopper, president of Falcon Gas Storage. "With this pipeline, Falcon will be the only independent natural gas storage facility interconnected with the two main east-west natural gas pipelines that connect two of Texas' major gas trading hubs, Waha and Carthage."
The Hill-Lake natural gas storage facility, which Falcon purchased in March, is already providing single-cycle gas storage service to several customers on the Lone Star Pipeline system. Falcon is now retrofitting the facility for high-deliverability, multi-cycle (HDMC) storage service in time for the winter heating season. When retrofitting is completed, Hill-Lake will have a peak withdrawal capacity of more than 300,000 Mcf/d, injection capacity of more than 150,000 Mcf/d and a working gas capacity of 7.5-8.5 Bcf.
