Foster Wheeler's Delayed Coker Technology to be Installed at Deer Park, TX
Foster Wheeler Corp. (Clinton, NJ) has won a contract from Shell Oil Co., on behalf of the Deer Park Refinery L.P., a joint venture between Shell and PMI Norteamerica (a Petroleos Mexicanos company), to support the expansion of the venture's refinery in Deer Park, TX. The centerpiece of the refinery expansion project is Foster Wheeler's proprietary Selective Yield Delayed Coking (Sydec) technology, and will enable improved processing of heavy, sour Maya crude supplied by PMI.
This expansion project, valued at about $300 million, follows Foster Wheeler's 1995 completion of the delayed coker project that converted the Deer Park refinery for processing Maya crude. Foster Wheeler USA's Southwest Operations Center in Houston will provide process design, detailed engineering, constructability planning and procurement services for the delayed coking unit and gas plant. Carl Bartoli, President and CEO of Foster Wheeler USA, noted that this project is yet another indicator of how Foster Wheeler is able to support the major project requirements of Gulf Coast refiners from Foster Wheeler's offices in Houston.
