The Big Knife valves are designed for application with low to medium percentage of solids. They allow solids to accumulate in the bottom of the valve as the valve is being closed. The bottom of the valve can be flushed out in order to prevent compaction of material. They can also clean out the bottom if material cannot be flushed out and do this while the valve is in line.
There is no pressure build up inside the valve which can give a force component towards the openings direction of the blade. For automatic operation, the valves can be equipped with three limit switched. These valves retain the bi-directional shut-off feature.
