Kellogg Awarded Design and License of Mexican FCC Units
Petroleos Mexicanos-Refinacion (PEMEX-Refining) has awarded the basic design and license of three grassroots fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) units to the M.W. Kellogg Technology Company (Houston, TX).
One of the three proposed units will be located in Salina Cruz, Mexico, with a capacity of 28,000 barrels per stream day (BPSD), another will be located in Tula, Mexico (25,500 BPSD), and the third will be located in Minatitlan, Mexico (42,000 BPSD). The Salina Cruz and Tula refineries are currently in operation, using two Kellogg FCC units each.
Kellogg provided the technology for six of PEMEX's eight existing FCC units, dating back to the mid-1970s. PEMEX solicited competitive bids for four new units, selecting Kellogg for three.
Kellogg's experience in FCC design and engineering includes the Orthoflow series of units, which were initially designed as combined reactor/regenerators for reduced erosion. The Orthoflow FCC unit simplifies cracking of heavy resid feeds, enabling refiners to achieve more favorable yield selectivities. More than two million BPSD of FCC capacity worldwide incorporates Kellogg technology.
Kellogg is a subsidiary of Dresser Industries, Inc. (Dallas, TX).
