Manufacturing With Specialized Material
When Natus Medical faced the challenge of adapting the Echo-Screen III® to a new BPA-free material while retaining the device's mechanical and cosmetic properties, they turned to MedBio for a solution. Originally manufactured using a polycarbonate/ABS alloy, the device needed a new resin due to emerging safety regulations and market demands. With the existing molds and production deadlines in place, creating new tooling was not an option.
MedBio collaborated closely with Natus and resin manufacturer Eastman to identify Tritan™ copolyester MXF121, an experimental resin with the required properties. Employing Scientific Injection Molding (SIM) principles, MedBio swiftly modified processes to ensure the existing tooling produced high-quality parts, leading to the successful launch of the first-ever 100% BPA-free medical device in the market.
