Besides the daily design and maintenance functions at product terminals, PEI has extensive experience with designing fire protection systems, including direct negotiations with the local fire departments. Additionally, PEI has been directly involved with analyzing air emissions at terminals and permitting, sizing and installing vapor recovery units and vapor combustion units.

With over 20 years of tank design, construction, and inspection experience, PEI has a certified API 653 above ground storage tank inspector on staff. PEI can assist clients in managing their tank inspection programs, or PEI can perform the work on a turn-key basis.

Ranging from pump replacement to tank relocation, PEI has been selected by Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC (MAP) to handle a series of ongoing projects at many of its Midwest terminals. The pump replacement and tank relocation projects included special requirements that minimized downtime. This required accurate as-built drawings of the existing equipment to allow all the piping to be prefabricated. The tank relocations required PEI to consult with the local fire departments and to accommodate the local fire codes. In order to monitor and expedite the construction phase and to resolve conflicts as they occur, PEI performed the additional role of construction coordination for these projects by placing the piping designer in the field.
