Koch Extraction Technologies, Inc.mn consists of a series of mixing chambers in which turbine propellers are mounted on a central shaft. A section of specially designed structured packing elements contained within baffles is located above and below each mixing stage. These sections of packing not only separate the mixing compartments from each other, but also serve to coalesce the dispersed phase between the stages. According to the supplier, this allows the column to create much finer dispersions than can be created in other rotating columns, without a corresponding loss of throughput capacity. The column is suited for applications where a fine dispersion (high interfacial area) is required by process due to either mass transfer or reaction kinetics limitations.
The entire shaft and impeller assembly is suspended from a gearbox at the top of the column, so there are no internal bearings to be maintained. All maintenance is performed outside of the column. The drive is equipped with a variable speed motor to allow optimization of column performance.
The shell can be constructed out of any metal or FRP. The internals can be metal or FRP, and the packing can be metal or Teflon.
