Russian Oil Refinery To Integrate Eco-Tec Amine Purification
Russian production and investment company, TAIF NK, has chosen Eco-Tec Inc.'s Amine Purification System (AmiPur™) to reduce contaminants at its refinery in the republic of Tatarstan.
After a careful evaluation of solutions available in the marketplace, TAIF became convinced of the long-term economic benefits of integrating a permanent, continuously performing amine purification system versus what the competition was offering, which was a temporary system and periodic service. TAIF is located in Nizhnekamsk, the same city as Russian refinery OJSC TANECO, for which Eco-Tec sold an AmiPur in 2009. The proven performance of AmiPur for the nearby refinery was also a driving factor behind the new project with TAIF, says Sunil Dandekar, Global Product Manager, Amine Purification, Eco-Tec Inc.
For the oil refining and gas processing industry, amine chemistry is essential for removing hydrogen sulfide and/or carbon dioxide in order to meet product specifications, emissions standards, or other process requirements. During operation various contaminants enter, or are produced, within the amine circuit. Contaminants include heat stable salts (HSS), solid particulates, and hydrocarbons – resulting in various operational problems.
By incorporating AmiPur into the refining process, TAIF will gain the benefits of continuous removal of HSS from its amine solution, allowing it to maintain low, stable HSS concentration with predictable amine characteristics. This enhancement will also reduce corrosion by-products, minimize fouling of the heat exchanger and contactor surfaces, improve heat transfer, and curb costs associated with cleaning of fouled equipment.
The new system for TAIF marks another Eco-Tec project in Russia, and is now among more than 50 AmiPur integrations in 18 countries worldwide.
