Sonatrach Picks GE Nuovo Pignone for $107-Million Oilfield Generator
Sonatrach, Algeria's national oil company, is purchasing three MS9001E gas
turbine-generator sets to provide 300 MW of power for the Ghadames oilfield
in southeastern Algeria. The new plant will be located at Hassi Berkine,
about 250 kilometers east of Hassi Messaoud. The three units are scheduled
to begin commercial operation in February, March and April of 2001,
respectively.
In addition to the gas turbine-generators, GE Nuovo Pignone's (Florence, Italy) contract also calls for the supply of a natural gas treatment system, liquid fuel gas turbine storage and feeding, firefighting and auxiliary systems for the plant, generator switchgears, bus-bars, step-up transformers, a black-start diesel generator, a SCADA system and control equipment.
GE Nuovo Pignone is a leading supplier of compressors, gas and steam turbines and related equipment for oil and gas, pipeline, refinery, petrochemical and power-generation industries.
